Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, located in Tucson, Arizona, is a United States Air Force base under the Air Combat Command (ACC). The base is home to the 355th Wing, which provides A-10 Thunderbolt II close air support, OA-10 Forward Air Control, and EC-130H Compass Call electronic warfare capabilities.
The base is named in honor of two early aviators, Samuel H. Davis and Oscar Monthan. Davis was a local aviator who, in 1919, was involved in an accident while flying a Curtiss JN-4 "Jenny." Monthan, a Tucson native, was the first Tucsonan to be killed in a military aircraft. He died in 1918 while on a training mission in Texas.
